Italian Heritage Festival

When you think of the Low Country you normally think shrimp, fish, crabs, corn on the cob, okra, etc.  However, this weekend you can wet your appetite with my all time favorite food - Italian. Paul Caimano, Event Chairman, invites everyone to this celebration that helps in raising money for charities.

The Italian-American Club of Hilton Head is preparing to celebrate the robust Feast of San Gennaro.  Italian culture is all about food and family and on Saturday, September 13, 2014 the 5th Annual Italian Heritage Festival will be held from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm.  Location for this event will be at the Coastal Discovery Museum at 70 Honey Horn on Hilton Head.

If any of you remember the "I Love Lucy" show where she went grape stomping well, you are going to love the event that is planned for the festival as you take part in "stomping the grapes." Come with an empty stomach if you plan to enter the pizza eating contest.  For those of you who just want to sit back and enjoy the day, please bring a lawn chair and listen to the musical entertainment. Stickball and bocce ball tournaments are also on the agenda where you take part in or just watch.

Now, for the best part - FOOD.  Cheeses, breads, pastas, meatballs, sausages, and calzones - Mama Mia!  And desserts - Italian ice, biscotti, gelato and zeppoles are just a few that will be available to satisfy that sweet tooth. Cooking demonstrations and learning how to make homemade sausage, cheeses and again one of my favorites - pizzelles.

Rain or Shine - the event will go on.  Remember NO Pets please!  Admission is $5.00.  I look forward to seeing each of you out and about at the Italian Festival.
